Magnolia Electric Co, “Hold On Magnolia”

September 2, 2007

The love that I have for Jason Molina is no secret. His music has been one of the constants in my life for several years now, and this continues to be one of my favorite songs of his. The line, “You might be holding the last light I see, before the dark finally gets a hold of me,” does something to me every single time.

Very haunting. It’s really, really nicely done. Thank you for sharing it.

You’re welcome. You shouldn’t encourage me, though, or I’ll talk exclusively about Jason Molina for ages.

Most of his music is just as haunting. Listen to anything you can find of Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co, Pyramid Electric Co or under his real name, Jason Molina, and you won’t be disappointed.

I don’t know. It just doesn’t do it for me.

On the other hand, I’ve been listening to the soundtrack to EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL and I love it.

This guy, though — reminds me of the scene in ANIMAL HOUSE where the folk singer is playing the guitar and John Belushi smashes it.

I have no taste and I am a coarse human being who is consigned to the fiery pits of Hell.

    Sigh.

    Richard, you disappoint me.

hey stranger, it’s nice to know there are others out there who’ve also spun that track to death… he really is the bee’s knees.
…it’ll get so quiet when this record ends…

Hey, bub. Almost no one else I know likes this music, so yay for you. Let’s start our own secret society.

I’m sure we could figure something out!

For the moment I’m kind of at a loss for new things to listen to. All the music I really like seems to be from two years ago or more, and it’s all the stuff I keep going back to. I could really use suggestions, best unbeaten brother, and since you’re a Bonnie Prince Billy fan too, I’m think I’ll probably like what you offer.

Happy New Year to you, too!

hmmm… i’m in the same boat, feels like i’ve been spinning the same records for years… i’m obsessed with dillard & clark at the moment, in particular ‘through the morning through the night’… i’ve got it as my profile track at the moment

‘Hold on Magnolia’ is a wonderfully haunting song. Glad someone likes it as much as I do.
